Geographical Features of Nepal
The geography of Nepal is unique because of its dramatic changes from south to north within a short distance of about 150-250 km across its east west extent. The country is broadly divided into three main physical regions.
Tarai Region (Southern plains) : Low lying flat region extended east to west, altitude 60-300 meters above sea level, hot and humid climate and consist of major national parks in this regions.
Hill (Pahad) Region : Middle part of Nepal in between Tarai and Himalayas also extended east to west, altitude about 300-3000 meters, includes valleys, hills, basin and river, moderate climate.
Himal (Mountain) Region : Northern high mountainous region also extended alongside east to west, altitude above 3000 meters and contains the Himalayan range with 8 of the world’s 14 highest peaks above 8000 meters including Mt. Everest (8848m), Cold climate.
Nepal has a monsoon climate with four main seasons: spring, summer (monsoon), autumn and winter. Because of the varied climate and altitude, Nepal has rich biodiversity.
